Being safe along the road means carrying along items you will need in case of an emergency. That could be a flat tire, weather problems along the way, a dead battery, or being stranded along the road due to car problems or accident. A cell phone of course is a must to have, but since there are considerable stretches of areas without cell service, you cannot always rely on your cell phone to get help so it is prudent to take precautions before you leave on your road trip.

Some basic items to think about are jumper cables in the event of a dead battery, can of flat tire fixer, a tow rope, a light stick, flashlight, first aid kit, water proof matches, and a battery powered radio. . Be sure to pack extra batteries, also. A  first aid kit  should consist of bandages, gauze pads, antiseptic towelettes, aspirin, antacid, antibacterial ointment, cotton tips, and burn ointment.

To be prepared for an extended time, you should have 3 days supply of food and water. MREs are the best choice as they have a 5 year shelf life, far longer than canned food products They have a high energy value, don’t provoke thirst, may be eaten without preparation, and are light weight. Water you store from your tap will soon develop growing levels of bacteria, so purchasing water packs will give you peace of mind over a long period of time.
